The maiden handicap run at Bellewstown on July 4th has proven to be a rich source of winners, with Shoulda Lied becoming the third subsequent winner to come out of it as he landed the 2m1f Tote Handicap in the rain at Killarney. Willie Mullins’ 11/4 favourite outstayed El Tren and Magen’s Moon by one and a quarter lengths and half a length to add to a maiden hurdle win achieved last year at Tipperary.
Winning rider Colin Keane commented afterwards-“He’s probably a horse that saves a bit for himself but that’s not a bad thing I suppose.
“Wayne (Lordan) was pretty happy with him the last day. He said he got a bit tight early doors and got pushed back a little further than he wanted to but came home well.
“The step up in trip suited him today and we went a nice gallop the whole way.”
