Ampeson recorded quick back-to-back victories when running out a cosy winner of the seven-furlong handicap at Leopardstown tonight.
The Patrick McKenna-trained gelding had won in good style at Fairyhouse on Sunday and it was a similar story this evening.
Luke McAteer produced the 2/1 favourite to lead a furlong from home and the result was soon in no doubt as the Mayson gelding went on to post a two-and-a-half length win over Shamrock Sprig
“He was very impressive to be fair to him,” said McKenna.
“He was double entered and this looked a handy enough one, no disrespect to any of the other horses, compared to the race he was in the first day.
“He did it easy the last day, and got a good hike. You'd be fearful coming back four days after his last run but he was that well in himself, even down in the stable yard today he was on the ball again.
“He seemed to do it nicely again there. If this had been a couple of races earlier we'd have been heading to the good race in the Curragh, the Scurry.
“We're delighted with that and he just seems to get better as he goes on.
“Luke gave him a class ride. The lad that does all the work at home Gavin Cosgrove deserves a lot of credit because he's directing me in a lot of ways as he's worked in a lot of good yards.”
