Amirat Alward continued Billy Lee ’s steady stream of winners this season when making all in the Pat Smullen Handicap at Listowel.
The daughter of Acclamation won a Lingfield maiden last November for Richard Hughes and was having just her second start since joining Willie McCreery this year.
The 11/1 chance, available at 25/1 overnight before a couple of non-runners, quickened up nicely over a furlong out and kept on well to score by a-length-and-three-quarters from Theriverrunsdeep who came home well on the outer. Mercurial was a further length-and-a-quarter back in third.
McCreery said, “Billy said he won it out of the stalls. She loved the tight track and he said when she heard them coming she took off up the straight again.
“She’s not an over big filly but she has a good heart.
“Micheal Fahy bought her because he has shares in Kodi Bear and Acclamation mares cross well with him. She didn’t cost much and that will go a long way for her training fees.
“We’ll try and get some black type for her along the line.”
