Having been strong in the market all day, the 6/4 favourite Ambitious Fellow was a decisive winner of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Auction Flat Race.

Third at Kilbeggan last month, the Fame And Glory gelding tracked the pace before coming through to lead just under three furlongs out.

He was soon ridden clear by Derek O’Connor and passed the post five and a half lengths clear of the newcomer Hardy Fella

Easy-to-back morning favourite Free Nelson who made the running until headed by the winner, weakened tamely and finished in rear.

The winner, who cost E30,000 at the Derby sale, is a full-brother to Nicky Henderson’s 4-year-old Theatre Glory who won a Worcester bumper on her debut in May.

Winning trainer Peter Fahey said: “He put out a couple of splints after his first run (last December) and we are only getting him back going now.

“He’s a nice horse and anything he does at home he does well. He came on a good bit from his run in Kilbeggan.

“He handled that ground today but is not ground dependant and will handle a good cut in it. He’s a nice strong horse and jumps well.

“He’ll go over hurdles now if he’s not sold.”
