A night to remember for Swan & Hoban
Charlie Swan and Conor Hoban completed an 87/1 double when Maggie Neary defied a 9Ib hike in the ratings for a course and distance success here a week ago. The daughter of Hurricane Run landed the concluding www.dundalkstadium.com Handicap following on from her stable companion, Tribes And Banner s win around an hour earlier. Denny Crane (4/1 in the morning into 6/4) was a heavily backed favourite here but he could only manage 4th as the finish was fought out by the mares, Maggie Neary beating Ultra Cool by a head.
Swan, saddling his first double on the level, said: "We'll have to see if we go for something similar or if we go for the big hurdle at Leopardstown (on St Stephen's Day).
"She jumps well but with the ground so deep you'd be tempted to stay on the flat for the moment."
Meanwhile this was also Conor Hoban's first double. He is a 21-year-old from Westport and of course he is attached to Mick Halford's yard.
Swan commented of Hoban: "He's a good rider and he used his head there. We were drawn 13 so we decided to jump and get across."
Interestingly Swan and Hoban's other winner, Tribes And Banner was also housed in stall 13. (AM & EM)
