Pass The Hat got off the mark over fences on the ninth time of asking, as he took the last at Limerick today, the STL Logistics EBF Beginners Chase, providing his jockey David Casey with a 142/1 double (won earlier aboard Emily Gray .
The six-year-old chestnut son of Karinga Bay was well-beaten on his last start at Listowel, but on quick ground today he showed his ability.
Sent off at 12/1 he chased the leaders for much of the contest before taking closer order from the fourth last fence.
He was fourth before the straight and he was pushed along at the second last.
He came with his challenge at the final fence, staying on best on the run-in to out battle Dushybeag scoring by half a length at the line.
The aforementioned Dushybeag had to settle for second under Barry Geraghty for Michael Hourigan at 11/4, while the 5/4 favourite Seefood could only manage third, eight lengths back under Bryan Cooper for Dessie Hughes.
Arthur Moore said afterwards: "Everything was right today, the trip, the ground and he has that bit of experience.
"He showed the experience especially over the last two fences. At Listowel the last day he was in contention before making a mistake at the fourth last and he also missed the second last.
"He is still a novice for the season and he might run on through the winter, and he might even try further."
