we always felt there was going to be plenty of pace in the race which suited and I was just hoping they came back to us. He’s progressing nicely and was in off a light weight. He came out of the race in Fairyhouse well, and it’s great to win a nice prize at the Punchestown Festival. The lads who own him (Rising Sun Partnership) are real racing enthusiasts and I’m delighted with the way the horse has progressed throughout the season. I ran him before over longer trips to teach him to settle. He’s learning all the time but the handicapper is not going to be too kind to him. He’s pulled a front shoe and hopefully he comes home in one piece. He’s generally a good ground horse, and the way he won there you would be thinking of something like a two miles chase at Leopardstown over Christmas.

it was a lovely pot to win. When you are a novice you have to try and go for these; there will be plenty of handicaps next year. We were dropping back in trip but I always felt that he wasn't a slow horse. He's learning the whole time and probably Clonmel manned him up a bit. I was delighted with the way it went. With four runners it can often be tactical but he had a lovely position and he jumped lovely. We'll see what the ground does now but I'll probably ease off a bit now and wait for Fairyhouse or Punchestown. He wouldn't want it any heavier. The ground is lovely on the chase track. We'll see what the handicapper does now.

He is a work in progress and can be hard on himself. On the inside track here it is tight and it is hard to make up ground so we said if we jump out fourth or fifth and if he gets there, let him be there and keep filling him. I was delighted with the way he picked up after the last, having got in tight to it. He was entitled to win and he likes a bit of nice ground. He's a nice horse.

He's a brother of Snugsborough Benny who won in Tipperary. Ray Loughnane bred the two of them and we had to find an owner for one of them as he's a farrier and has two horses in training. I mentioned it to the boys that he was showing me a bit early on and in fairness they bought him and have been patient. He was a bit immature after running in point-to-points and was a bit wild in himself. He needed a bit of match practice more than anything and that was why the hood was on. He's a nice horse and really chasing is his game. He's a lovely horse. It's great for the lads, it's their first winner with me so I'm delighted. They have a few with me and are good owners. There are two lads from the north, Ivor McGrath and Sean Lavery, and Cathal Brophy lives near me at home and helps me in the yard while Michael Heary has been with me for years.
