On his handicap debut three-year-old Coill Avon gave older rivals a lesson in race two at Naas. Mon 26th Apr
After race at Dundalk Fri, 6th Jan, 2023 (1st)
He had dropped down in the handicap late in the summer and it has given him a chance to drop into that grade. It didn't look the strongest of races and Donagh was in a lovely little winning position, pulled out at the right time and was just idling away there in front. I'm very pleased for David (Spratt, owner) and it is great to get the season off to a winner. It was a strong-run race and at that level it was always going to be a bit of a collapse. As I said, Donagh was in the winning position to come off a fast pace. Our fella is very, very fast and when he is on song and runs a little bit behind the bridle, he finishes out his races really well. There has been times he has run too keen and doesn't get home. A fast-run pace is what he needs. He comes to the fore then.

After race at Bellewstown Thu, 30th Jun, 2022 (1st)
It was actually a nice performance. He probably had the form to do something like that. I was very happy with his run in Down Royal, he was arguably a little bit unlucky but I think he might have bumped into one up there. He came out of the race really well and we decided to give this a crack. He had course form from a run last year and it is a big advantage when you know you handle the track. We are on a bit of a roll and long may it continue. I think I badly trained him last year and we pulled up stumps with him towards the end of the season and gave him a break. He came back a different horse and he showed us a lot of exuberance on the gallops. We went there (Down Royal) quietly confident, we thought he would show up well and he did. He was maybe well handicapped if he transferred it to the track. Down Royal gave us that confidence that he had brought it back to the track. We were happy to turn him out relatively quickly.
