Obviously he won here in his last handicap hurdle off 136 and went up to 145. We could have gone for an easier beginners chase but we said we'd see how good he was. I told Adam to go out there and be confident on him because I think he's a right good horse. He switched off lovely there today and when Adam asked him he just quickened. I'm delighted with it. He's won on better ground all last year, he's versatile and will go on any sort of ground. He's a proper little horse. He jumped brilliant and travelled away lovely. Obviously Bapaume is a serious horse and you couldn't be coming here mad confident. I was hopeful and I'm not overly shocked to be honest. We could look at a good race now for him. Today we just wanted to get around safely and enough it. We could look at three miles as the further the better for him. He's an out and out stayer. If this was run yesterday I probably would have entered him for the Grade 2 on Sunday but because it was today I was thinking if I had entered him and he'd flopped I'd look silly. There is no panic with him. I think he's a nice horse and he did that nicely anyway. It's great that he switched off well enough there today as he was a bit keen last year but he's grown up a bit.

He's just been improving and he really wants to win. I bought him for €1,000 at Tattersalls and we didn't expect him to be this good. He had a nice page and there was just something about him that I liked. I know he's a bit small but it's no bother to him. He's just improving the whole time and to do that off 136. I knew he was in good form and I knew he'd run a big race but he won going away. I wasn't overly concerned about his raise for his last win. He works well and he's a really nice horse. The plan was to go to Aintree but it was just a little bit quick after Cork so we said we'd come here. His work the other day was middling, he didn't work as well as he usually would, and I was 50/50 about running but thankfully I did. Keith is a really good rider and he gave him a great ride. I'll chat to the lads and he could probably do with a little break at some stage. I was toying with the idea of running him on the Flat over a mile-six or two miles. He'll go on all sorts of ground. He'll go on heavy ground or good ground.

Paul said he improved again there and he obviously has. He probably got to the front a little bit soon there but that's three wins out of four runs,. He is versatile enough ground-wise and we could go to Aintree for a three mile handicap hurdle there so we'll have a look at that. He seems to be improving the whole time.

Paul gave him a great ride and he said that he settled well and picked up real well for him. I was hoping we would have softer ground but he’s probably versatile enough ground wise. Three miles on that better ground probably suited him, and if it was heavy he could go over two and a half miles. It was nice that he backed up the win at Cork. We’ve had a good Christmas and the horses are running well so hopefully it will continue for another while.

Robbie gave him some ride, and he said he knew jumping the last he'd win it. You nearly need to produce him that late as when he did get to the front he thought for a second. The plan was to get him settled as he can be a bit keen. I knew he'd come home like that and he went close at Wexford last year.
