He's a horse with such an engine, if you can get into his head, you've a chance. Down the hill the last time I got him rolling and I was actually sitting sweet on him then going to two out. He's always been tricky at the start and refused one day here before. I always go down to the start with him, if I wasn't there he wouldn't go at all. He's a stable stalwart and you don't want to lose horses like that. We'll see what happens with the claims.

When you get him on that kind of day he's great,. He's had little bits of niggly issues over the last year. We'll see whether anyone claims him, I'd like to have him for another bit. He gallops them into the ground once he gets into that rhythm. He never wins a race by a length or two, when he wins he annihilates them.

Darragh (O'Keeffe, on Bold Emperor) knew my horse and I'd say he was just trying to take it off him down the back to see would it sicken him, but my fella just kept taking it out of him with his jumping. He's in a great vein of form at the moment. Keith is a great horseman and he jumped great for him again today. He'll be well up in the weights after this so we'll go for the Grade 2 at Gowran Park in early October. He's match fit and some horses in that will be coming back from a break. We have to have a go at something like that at this stage. Then the plan is to go to the November meeting in Cheltenham and we'll be leaving him off for the year after that.

He loves it around here, that's his third win here - two hurdles and a chase. I thought if he jumped off, he won, he's just quirky at the start. Even the last day in Kilbeggan, he was half thinking about it. He raced way off the pace but he finished very well. On his day he is very good. He's a right old horse and that is nine races he has won. His two Flat wins have probably left him higher than he wants, but I think he will win over fences. He's probably going to be harshly treated for hurdles, but 118 over fences is fairly workable for him I'd say. I brought him back in with the idea of going to Punchestown for one of the better races and I chickened out of it because of the big fields and messing at the start. If you have a false start or two with him, you're in trouble. I'd love to go to Galway but we went down there last year and there was three false starts and he just planted himself. He jumped one or two fences but he wasn't having any of it. It's just work with where we can get a smaller field.

I was very cagey about running him again after running him so quick again last night. The first thing Colin (Keane) said last night, before he got off him, was 'if that lad is all right in the morning run him again'. That swung it for me. Watching the race today I thought he had gone too hard as he went some gallop down the back but he seems to be in the form of his life at the minute. He loves good ground and this track probably suits a lad like him as he can get his breather, fill his lungs and away again. He's a right old horse and a great horse to have. He's always promised a lot at home and we always thought he was better than what he had been doing. The reason I didn't go back chasing with him is that he took a tumble in Thurles and I was afraid it might have left a bit of a scar on him. The next day he ran here he planted himself at the start. When he's doing everything right at this game and at hurdling I might just put it on the long finger for the time being. He does jump well and was just unfortunate that day to take a tumble.

Colin was very good on him. He went a fair old clip until the end of the back straight and then gave him a nice breather over the hill. He kept at it very well. He's a right horse on his day, I know it's a low grade. Jumping is his game but I just thought that there was another one of these in him. He does handle a dig in the ground as well, so we'll keep going until the ground turns heavy. We're tempted to go for a chase again next and we'll give him a little bit of jumping over the next couple of weeks.

I thought he ran a blinder in Punchestown. He probably just needed it after being off for so long and we thought he’d take beating today,. He travelled really well and is a horse with a lot of ability. Darragh thinks there is a proper handicap in him either over fences or over hurdles.

.I told him (Conor McNamara) to put him asleep for the first half because he can get a bit free - drop him out, hunt him for the first round and tip away and hope for the best after that,. A couple went out at the first which probably did no harm to us. He’s a lovely horse and gets into a race very easily. He jumps well and looked like he had plenty in hand (after the last).

Niall rode him last year in Bellewstown and said he could have went a bit quicker as all he did was stay. He made plenty of use of him today and said he had a bit of a blow and thinks he might improve a bit off that. He won over seven furlongs in England but we’ve never seen any of that pace. He won a two and a half miles hurdle for us.
