Before he came back to me, Paul Moloney (who cheered the winner home on the infield) spent his time training him on the beach and my own young fella Timmy and my wife still head off with him to Beale beach (north Kerry) two or three times a week. Paul is stone mad for racing and trained until five years ago but like most fellows training nowadays he couldn't make the books balance. He is now driving a lorry but his heart is in racing and we also gave him another horse to bring on - his heart and soul is inside in it. Darragh O'Keeffe said that when he wasn't able to go on, he loved being able to take his time and was able to get a feel for him and he loved that ground. He is after dropping down the grades and while every day I'm talking about retiring him, he'll keep going.

The old dog for the dog as he used his experience. He had more experience than any of the rest of them and we were hopeful enough of him. We have him six weeks and he came to us from pre-trainer Tom Barry who gave him to us in great order. We did no miracles with him and Tom did a great job with the horse. In a beginners chase, he was like the school-master inside there and he stood out today.

He was very impressive and surprised me how easy he won. We'll find something for him around Christmas time. I knew at home that he would handle loose ground. He's very versatile in trip and ground, and anything from two miles to two and a half is fine. We'll have to consider races like the Boylesports Hurdle now.

The ground might have been a bit dead for him but he (Johnny Burke) timed it well and gave him a great ride. The handicapper can't really be too hard on him today and hopefully not as hard as his last two wins. He was a bit lonely in the smaller field today and we'll look for another race at Christmas time next.

He got seven pounds for winning at Clonmel the last day but got two more for standing in his stable! Seven or eight winners came out of the race and I was hoping he (the handicapper) was right.

I had him in the two and a half mile race today but he didn't get in so I was worried that the trip might be too short. He'll go for something similar next and will be kept on the go as long as the ground doesn't get too hard,. That's my first racecourse winner and my third runner. I received my license last November and had a point to point winner at Dawstown last weekend.
