Luke is only 17 and from Donegal. He’s been with us about two years and is taller than me. He’s a very natural rider who works very hard at his weight and deserves the opportunity. It’s great for him to get the win. He rode a bumper winner for Barry Fitzgerald before in Galway. He’ll go back to Aintree now and I’ll ride him there. He’s a brilliant jumper and Aintree will suit him over two and a half miles. He’s a fast horse, they went slow and it turned into a sprint which suited him.

He jumped brilliant but didn’t finish as strong as I thought he might. The whole reason we kept him this year was for Aintree and he didn’t qualify in time. Hopefully next year that will be the aim.

I think this fellow has improved with age and I don’t mind going up in trip with him either. That might be his optimum trip but I’d prefer to go up in trip rather than come back,. He jumped well so hopefully he can improve for the rest of the season.

After race at Fairyhouse Sat, 11th Jan, 2020 (1st)
It was a good performance. Willie has done well with this lad and I had schooled him a good bit at home,. He put it together nicely and it takes a fair horse to come and win in Fairyhouse first time. Hopefully there will be more to come over fences than he showed over hurdles but he still ran to a solid level over hurdles all last year. What he done at the second last was probably why he was so good. When he made the mistake he got away from it quick. We don't get points for how well it looks, it's about how fast we get from A to B and he did that as adequate as you'd like him to do it today for a horse first time. He'll probably get further but the way he threw in a few of those jumps early on he'd be a nice two-mile chaser through the spring. Better ground might bring out more in him but that's still a solid performance on slow ground after plenty of rain today.
