Review punchestown 13th Oct

Thu 13th Oct 2016, 18:20

Henry de Bromhead enjoyed a Grade Three double at Punchestown on Thursday, enhancing his impressive strike-rate with chasers on home soil.

It was the first time since 2010 that the Irish Daily Star Chase wasn't won by Gordon Elliott and Gigginstown House Stud, as the feared partnership had to settle for a supporting role with Lord Scoundrel

The David Mullins-ridden Sadler's Risk (7-4) travelled just as well as the Elliott-trained runner but out-jumped him at the last fence before asserting on the flat for a taking five-and-a-half-length success.

It was a similar story in the Buck House Novice Chase when stable companion Three Stars (3-1) was foot perfect under Ruby Walsh en route to beating the Gigginstown-owned Ball D'arc by two and a quarter lengths.

Elliott, who was the star at Punchestown on Wednesday having enjoyed a 454-1 four-timer, did have something to shout about courtesy of Labaik (16-1) in the Buy Your 2017 Annual Badge Maiden Hurdle when action got underway at 2.15.

The five-year-old had refused to race on his two previous starts on the Flat at Lingfield and Laytown but jumped off on terms on his hurdling debut and created a good impression beating Top Othe Ra under Keith Donoghue by five and a half lengths.

Shark Hanlon was also in the winning enclosure at the County Kildare track on Wednesday when Hidden Cyclone rolled back the years and the Bagenalstown-based handler enjoyed more success in the Go Racing In Kildare Handicap Hurdle.

A slight mistake at the second flight forced 5lb claimer Rachael Blackmore to be patient under Magna Cartor (16-1) but he picked up well approaching the last and kept on to beat Kiera Royale by two lengths.

There was drama in the Punchestown November Festival Christmas Fair Handicap Hurdle when 15-8 favourite St Stephens Green came to grief two flights from home when still travelling menacingly.

Emmet Mullins' charge brought down Crosshue Boy in the process and it was 7-1 chance Master Appeal who took full advantage for John Kiely and 5lb claimer Ambrose McCu
