He’s a ten-year-old now and that’s 11 races that he’s won, he’s a brilliant servant. He’s been a bit in and out this year but would have won here two runs ago when he stumbled at the back of the last so he deserved that. Looking at the race he was meeting them all wrong at the weights but they are all old horses and have two ways of running at this stage so we said we’d take our chance. Hopefully the handicapper won’t react too harshly. They are hard horses to place. We pulled him out of Galway because of the ground and then we ran on similar ground here. It’s loose here so we got away with it. Extreme trips suit him and if we could get three and a half miles that would be great. Daniel gave him a lovely ride and had him in all the right places.

The penny is just dropping with him. He stays very well and he always hits a flat spot but I wanted to run him on good ground once. He handles the soft ground so well but it’s nice to see him on good ground today. He’s jumped from fence to fence. He’s a strange horse in his head and it’s taken him a long time to mature. We’ve had to be very patient. He’s put together three good runs and that’s the first time he’s done that since we’ve had him. I thought he was in front too soon as he can look about him, but the big track helps him as he’s coming home a long way. Maybe he could be competitive later in the year in one of those Nationals. He stays so well. Menindee fell when in front at the last in this race last year so that makes up for it.

The ground was soft in Roscommon that day. It was a big improvement today. After finishing second at Clonmel, he had a couple of middling runs. He has been placed so many days and he deserved that. It's his second win and he has been pretty consistent, he is a great little horse. He was down the bottom of the handicap and we took seven off with Conor's claim. It's great for Conor, that's his third winner and he is improving away. He probably wants another year of experience under his belt to really get going. He is definitely on the up. That's 41 winners now and it's my best season to date. It was lovely to hit the 40 winners mark the other day. I've been fifth in the trainers table nearly all year and while behind me is something like 18, I'm still miles behind the first four. For a yard of 50 odd horses at the level we are at, it's magic. I've got massive support from owners and I have wonderful staff. Long may it last.
