3:40pm There's the the usual eccentricity to this event with the 2009 and 2010 winners renewing rivalries. Shin A Vee won in 2009 but was narrowly beaten by COOL WARRIOR the following year and, while Derek O'Connor is a notable booking, Shin A Vee has been absent for 772 days and is now passed over. Preference is for 12 year old COOL WARRIOR, who at least has proven fitness on his side. The other 14 runners have mustered just 10 point to points wins between them and finding a form alternative to either of the two previous winners is difficult. Ten year old Norwich Flyer has three point to point wins to his name though and may play a prominent roll while Enniskillen, who worringly is still a maiden point to pointer, ran ok in the Ladies Cup on Tuesday and has minor claims. The Begrudger is a dual point to point winner a long time ago but hasn't shown anything worth mentioning recently. (TW)

I'd like to think the combination of the track and ground at Killarney the last day was the reason for his defeat then, as the race seemed as though it was terribly fast.

I'm delighted with that and the horse is a credit to all my staff and everyone concerned who had an input in getting him back to form. He has had his problems and the reality was that last spring we were nowhere with him . the sad thing was, he only had one race in his novice year and that was very frustrating. We have the luxury now of either giving him a break and prepare him for a spring campaign or else going for races like the Hattons Grace or Fighting Fifth Hurdles. I'll discuss things with Barry (Geraghty) before making firm plans and, at this moment, I couldn't say he won't make a Champion Hurdler.

The ground was as soft as he would want it. I walked the track at 8.15 this morning as I was so worried but I was pleasantly surprised,. He never got the opportuntity to take on the top novices last season as he was just not right. He was not a well horse in the spring. Obviously he's been improving and great thanks must go to my staff who have done a great job with him. The last piece of work he did was very nice. He may go to Down Royal for the Grade 2 race there and that will give him a chance to take on some of the good novices from last season.

I'm delighted he won a flat race. He'll probably go for a handicap hurdle at Listowel next but that depends on the ground. It's nice to have another option on the flat.

I have to thank the racecourse farrier as he travelled up badly and tore a shoe off. He did a great job with polyfilla!,. He did it nicely on ground that's softer than he wants. He'll go chasing in the autumn but could go to Galway for a hurdle, even though that might not be his track.

We bred him ourselves. I'm impressed with the way he jumped. I'll probably give him one more run at Tipperary or Limerick then put him away,. We'll bring him back in the spring with the aim of running him at Aintree more than Cheltenham. I have to discuss it with the owners but I think the flat track might suit him better. His brother ran earlier today, Rare Commodity, and he's had trouble with his wind. This fellow also had a small wind operation and that's why he didn't run until he was five. We weren't 100 per cent sure of the merit of his bumper performances but today was a decent class maiden hurdle, possibly of the standard of Leopardstown at Christmas. He's not the finished article yet but he's The Real Article!

The Real Article is an exciting prospect but its hard to know what to do with him next! We could put him away for the Cheltenham Bumper in March or we could go hurdling now - he jumps very well so hopefully he'll make a better hurdler than bumper horse!

he schooled after he won at Cork the last day and did things very nicely. He'll go for a maiden hurdle next, at either Killarney or Galway and I would like to run him in the good novice hurdle here in October before putting him away for the winter.

This fellow has had one wind operation whilst Rare Commodity has had four. He might go hurdling now as I'm not a great winners bumper man.
