he'd really been going well and we were humming and hawing about running him over seven furlongs and five furlongs on his last start. Sam (Ewing) thought he'd won over seven so it might be best going with the tried and tested but he didn't stay. He seemed to stay it in claimers but didn't in the handicap. Foolishly when we were at the sales over in Tattersalls we took a chance in the five furlong race two days later as he was already entered in it. He was completely flat. He looks completely ungenuine, every time I see him he looks to have a horrible head carriage but he's fully genuine and never seems to shirk it. he has no choice but to go for premier handicaps now. Those type of races that he's running in up here, if they were on grass they'd be premier handicaps. Short of dropping back into claimers there aren't many other races for him. We're not going to find any easy races for him now but he's more than paid for himself. He owes us nothing so we'll tip away and see how he goes.

he beat two of mine in claimers so if he’s going to keep beating you in claimers, you might as well take him and have him on your team!. We’ve just given him a couple of breezes to keep him fresh and he showed plenty of boot so we said we’d take a chance and see if he could drop back to six (furlongs). I’m pleasantly surprised. He got 7lb for the first claimer and another 7lb for the last one so the handicapper obviously rated him. We’ll keep him busy like the rest of them now.

He did it nicely. We claimed him here in December and kept him going over Christmas. We only kept two or three going at home. I'm delighted that he put it to bed fairly well. I'll get profit on him if he's claimed, which is fantastic. Dean did a lovely job on him and hopefully he'll get a few more opportunities now. He's with me a year-and-a-half and he deserves to get some outside rides. He's got a good head on him and it's a good start for him.
