An enquiry was held to consider whether Mr Phillip York, the rider of Uncle Danny, placed fifth, had continued in the race when the horse appeared to be exhausted after being beaten by 102 lengths behind BLACK KALANIS (IRE), placed fourth.
The rider and the Veterinary Officer were interviewed, and recordings of the incident were viewed.
The Veterinary Officer stated that she carried out a post-race examination of Uncle Danny, immediately after the race, which revealed that the gelding appeared to be exhausted with a low head carriage and a high heart rate.
A further examination of Uncle Danny, 25 minutes later, revealed that the gelding’s heart rate was still higher than normal.
The rider was suspended for 5 days on dates to be notified to him by the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority.
