The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Buddy Bolero trained by A.J.Martin was found to have burst blood vessels. A.E. Lynch, rider of Ruben Cotter trained by Peter Maher, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount found the ground too quick. The Stewards interviewed J.J. Slevin, rider of First Lieutenant, concerning his use of the whip in this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned and from Dr. Lynn Hillyer, M.R.C.V.S. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found J.J. Slevin in breach of Reg 10 3.(f) by using his whip with excessive force and Reg 10. 2. by using a worn whip and having taken his record into account suspended him for 21 racedays and referred him to RACE for 2 days instruction in the correct use of the whip. The Stewards wished to interview B.M. Cash, rider of Treo Eile, concerning his use of the whip in this race. The Stewards were unable to conduct the enquiry as the rider had already left the racecourse and referred the matter to the Referrals Committee in accordance with Rule 14 (ii) (b).

A steeplechase for five yrs old and upwards
Weights - 5-y-o 11st 2lb; 6-y-o and up 11st 7lb; Mares allowed 7lb
Penalties - (to count from 1st January, 2016) The winner of a steeplechase to carry 5lb extra for each steeplechase won. No penalty to increase a horse's weight beyond 12st 7lb. Riders: 1. Riders who hold a Licence under I.N.H.S. Rules 2. Riders who hold a Licence under National Hunt Rules to ride in Steeplechases issued by any Recognised Turf Authority. 3. Riders who hold a Category ''C'' Permit to ride under I.N.H.S. Rules 4. Riders who hold a Permit to ride in Steeplechases issued by any other Recognised Turf Authority. The Stewards of the I.N.H.S. Committee have suspended Rule 78 to enable horses which run in this race (excluding the winner) to retain their Hunters Certificates for the remainder of the 2016/2017 Point To Point Season. The Stewards have also suspended the relevant parts of Rule 135 (iv) (c) and (v) for the purposes of this race.
