Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Crucial Role (GB), placed third, bled from the nose and therefore did not enter the Winner’s Enclosure on veterinary advice, and further reported that Slate House (IRE), placed fifth, bled from the nose.
An enquiry was held into why members of the groundstaff were on the racing line before the last runner, Slate House (IRE), had passed the post.
The Clerk of the Course representing the Management Executive, the Head Groundsman and rider, Tom Scudamore were interviewed and shown recordings of the incident.
Having heard their evidence, their explanations were noted and a report was forwarded to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority.
