Review roscommon 7th Jun
Epsom Derby-winning trainer John Oxx and jockey Mick Kinane were out of luck as a couple of well-fancied runners failed to strike at Roscommon.
Just 24 hours after stealing the limelight with dual Classic winner Sea The Stars, hopes were high 11-4 market leader Takasima would take the beating in the Budweiser Median Auction Maiden.
The favourite had every chance in the closing stages of the 10-furlong heat but it was the game 11-1 chance Calle Aneto who claimed the honours.
Winning handler Michael Phillips was delighted to see his gelding hold the challenge of Clodova by a neck.
He said: "That's my first winner in over a year, my horses have been sick for a very long time.
"She's a decent horse, we schooled her over hurdles and she jumps very well."< Tarankali was representing Oxx and Kinane in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden but finished two lengths adrift of 2-1 favourite Bangalore Gold
Winning trainer David Myerscough said: "He was unlucky not to win a maiden at Dundalk.
"It's the first time we've got decent ground for him and he finished like an aeroplane."
The David Wachman-trained Kiyra Wells (7-1) showed plenty of dash under Colm O'Donoghue to land the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden by one and a half lengths.
Wachman said: "She was crying out for a maiden. Colm gave her a very good ride and was very positive on her. We might step her up in grade now."< If Paradise sprung a minor surprise as the 12-1 shot saw off favourite Kaplinsky in the Ladies Day At Roscommon On July 7th Handicap.
"He loved the ground, his run in Dundalk has worked out well. He's a bit older now and he got the seven furlongs well," said trainer Michael Halford.
"We'll keep tipping away in handicaps for the summer now."
Gina Mangan scored the first winner of her fledging riding career as the Francis Ennis-trained 8-1 shot Salazaar swooped late for short head win in the Dermot Hughes Toyota Car Sales Handicap.
