Review roscommon 15th Aug
< Ultra Cool successfully stepped up to a mile and a quarter for the first time in the Irish Stallion Farms Fillies Handicap at Roscommon.
The Adrian McGuinness-trained 7/1 shot had got going too late to finish third over seven furlongs at the Galway Festival but was able to travel with a bit more ease at this distance and she cruised to the front approaching the furlong marker.
Johnny Murtagh didn't have to get too serious and his mount ran out a commanding four-length scorer.
Colin Keane showed plenty of initiative to land a gamble on Miranda's Girl in the I.F.A. Race Day Handicap.
Despite little to recommend her in the way of recent form, Tom Cleary's mare was backed in to 4/1 favouritism and Keane sent her to the front, establishing a clear lead by halfway.
The pack closed slightly, but never looked like landing a serious blow, and Miranda's Girl passed the post three and a half lengths ahead of Burn The Floor < Indigo River (6/1) showed the benefit of experience in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden.
Paul Flynn's filly had made an encouraging start to her career at the Curragh and built on that fifth-placing by seeing off PC Henry by two and a half lengths, with Ballydoyle newcomer Wrote one for the future back in third.
Joseph O'Brien warmed up for the ride on Juddmonte International hotpot Await The Dawn by coaxing Long Wait home in the Hillstreet Quarries Jog For Jockeys Flat V National Hunt Riders Challenge Handicap.
The 20/1 chance pipped Fran Berry and Second Glance in a head-bobbing finish, with the Seamie Heffernan-ridden Sparring Partner completing a clean sweep for the Flat boys in third.
The pick of the jumping action was the Lydon House Catering Hurdle, which went the way of Knockcroghery with odds-on favourite Devil's Elbow fading disappointingly out of contention.
