Review navan 19th Oct
Jim Bolger's tough filly Ceol Na Nog showed her trademark tenacity to land the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Handicap at Navan.
On her 13th start of the campaign, the 8-1 chance was sent to the front about three furlongs into the contest and was never headed thereafter.
Kevin Manning looked around shortly after turning in to see a good few lengths back to the chasing pack and although Elm Grove and Dragon Fei closed in, the line came in time for Ceol Na Nog, who beat the former by half a length.
The Aidan O'Brien-trained Perfect Storm put his experience to good use in the Navan Welcomes Owners (C & G) Median Auction Maiden.
Ana O'Brien was allowed an uncontested lead on the 7-1 shot, who was making his fifth appearance, and he displayed a willing attitude to fend off hot favourite Harbour Beacon by half a length.< Imagine If held the late lunge of Elizabeth Browning to claim top honours in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.
The 6-4 favourite mastered the front-running Porto Ferro at the furlong pole and kept going to keep the fast-finishing runner-up a nose at bay.
Some in-form sprinters went to post for the www.navanracecourse.ie Handicap and it went the way of Paul Midgley's raider One Boy (11-2 favourite), and the North Yorkshire handler followed up in the Come Racing Again Sunday 13th November Handicap courtesy of Giant Spark
The 3-1 favourite seemed beaten when challenged for the lead over a furlong out but he stuck out his neck gamely in the hands of Pat Smullen, who was also on One Boy, to account for Rattling Jewel by a length and a quarter.
Smullen completed a treble on Dermot Weld's Vigil in the Come Racing Again Sunday 13th November Maiden, while dropping from a mile and a half to a mile in the Arkle Bar Handicap did the trick for Song Of The Sky (13-2), who got off the mark at the seventh attempt.
