Review limerick 5th Apr
Kevin Prendergast recorded a quickfire double in the opening two races at Limerick and completed the hat-trick with Captainofthefleet in the concluding Limerick Run Maiden.
He was ridden by Declan McDonogh, who was also on Asheerah who edged out odds-on favourite Dance Secretary in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden.
The winner was made to pull out all the stops by Dance Secretary, who battled valiantly close home after trying to make all under Johnny Murtagh.
But Asheerah (4-1) had the momentum having arrived on the scene with a furlong to travel, and she shaded the verdict by a short head.< Obligada had bumped into some top prospects in three outings after winning on her debut last summer, but regained the winning thread at the first time of asking in 2011.
Last seen finishing sixth behind Dubai Prince at Leopardstown in October, Prendergast's filly was 6-1 for the Students Of Limerick Race, but she took up the running from Shelley Beach at the furlong pole and Sam James pushed her out for a two-length victory.
Prendergast and McDonogh had to settle for second as Estithmaar was outgunned by the Murtagh-ridden Swampfire (6-4 favourite) in the Spin Southwest Student Raceday Maiden.
The former looked to be going best as he loomed alongside the front-running Swampfire two furlongs out, but John Oxx's charge kept finding on the rail and dug deep for a head victory.
Ben Curtis got a fine tune out of Mrs Batt in the 5 Euro After Five Handicap, driving John Nicholson's 9-1 chance to a pillar-to-post success from Legendary Times
Dermot Weld's Reach The Stars held on from fellow 5-2 joint-favourite Concret And Clay in the "It's A Student's Life" Handicap.< Maal (16-) came six-wide around the bend under Colm O'Donoghue in the www.limerickraces.ie Online Packages Handicap, but it didn't stop him going on to beat Cave Artist by half a length.
