Review gowran park 18th Oct
The opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden could be a race worth following after Sir John Lavery produced a smart performance for trainer Aidan O'Brien.
The 8-13 favourite was coming here on the back of an encouraging debut effort at the Curragh and was clearly all the better for that initial experience, travelling sweetly in behind the leaders before clearing away in the closing stages to win by seven lengths.
Dermot Weld took the wraps off Haripour a half-brother to Epsom Derby winner Harzand, and he shaped with considerable promise in staying on strongly to claim the runner-up spot.
Weld went one better half an hour later as Zelaniya (9-4 fav) justified strong market support in the Thomastown Fillies Median Auction Maiden.
The daughter of Lawman fluffed her lines on debut and still had plenty to do here as they swung for home.
However, she produced a sustained challenge in the home straight to master Set In Stone by a length and three quarters.< Nanabad (10-1) wasn't without her supporters ahead of the Racing Again November 26th Maiden and ran out a convincing four and three quarter length scorer.
Mighty Leader looked set to collect when coming there with his challenge but on the opposite side of the track, Gary Halpin was getting a fine tune out of his filly who powered up the hill to win at the second time of asking.
There was a surprise winner of the www.gowranpark.ie Handicap as Dont Quit (16-1) registered his first career success with two and a quarter length defeat of Camile while the Like Gowran Park On Facebook Handicap produced an even bigger shock with 33-1 chance What About Bob running out a narrow victor.< Enough Is Enough (14-1) landed the Like Gowran Park On Facebook Handicap while the concluding Gowran Park Gold Memberships For 2017 Handicap went the way of Coolfighter (9-1).
