The well-backed 4-6 shot cruised into the lead under Paul Carberry at the final flight and pulled away to beat Auenschutze by three lengths.

It was his fourth win from six starts and was a welcome winner for trainer Gordon Elliott.

The County Meath handler had been out of luck when saddling beaten favourites Silverlord and Templar Knight in the first two races.

"He is a nice horse, better than the horses that usually win here. He'll go to Galway now for a novice hurdle on either the Wednesday or the Thursday," he said.

Elliott's Templar Knight had to settle for second spot, six lengths behind Michael Mulvany's Down The Dale (12-1).

Winning rider Tim Carroll, who claims 7lb and is the brother of Flat jockey Gary, said: "That's my third winner over jumps and I've had four on the Flat as well.

"He won very well, I didn't expect him to do that. He got into a nice rhythm and jumped great.

"They went fairly slow and I just kicked on at the top of the hill and he kept going. I couldn't believe it when I looked round before the second-last.

"I ride some top weights on the Flat but I'll mainly be riding over jumps. That's my main game now."

Silverlord was a well-beaten sixth in the Mr Baileys Maiden Hurdle as Golden Grimshaw (5-1) struck at the first attempt for Jimmy Lambe.

County Carlow trainer John 'Shark' Hanlon was on the mark with Baizically (3-1), who defied top-weight in the Race On Baileys Maiden Hurdle in the hands of 5lb claimer Conor O'Farrell.

"He did it easy, he's a maiden rated 103 and he was entitled to win. He'll go to Galway and is improving all of the time," said Hanlon.
