Review curragh 11th Oct
Kevin Prendergast and Hamdan Al Maktoum look to have a very promising filly on their hands following Handassa s impressive debut success at the Curragh.
Sent off a well-backed 13-8 favourite in the TRI Equestrian EBF Median Auction Maiden, the daughter of Dubawi travelled well for Declan McDonoghue and loomed up on to the heels of leader Deire Na Sli approaching the furlong marker.
At that point she skipped into a clear lead and there was a lot to like about the way she put five and a half lengths between herself and the runner-up.
John Oxx also blooded a useful youngster in the shape of three-year-old newcomer Riynaaz (11-4).
The Cape Cross filly came home two lengths to the good over Tupelo Honey under Fran Berry in the TRI Equestrian EBF Fillies Maiden.
Oxx and Berry, who are in flying form, enjoyed another winner when History Note (8-1) took the opening TRI Equestrian EBF Fillies Maiden.
She edged out favourite Rose Bonheur by a short-head to make a successful introduction.
Joseph O'Brien drew level with fellow apprentice title contender Gary Carroll with a double in the final two races on the card.
Patrick Flynn's Waydownsouth (9-2) took the Stephen Quirke Memorial Apprentice Handicap and Battleoftrafalgar trained by the young rider's father, Aidan, broke his duck at the 12th attempt in the Animalintex Maiden.< Port Elizabeth took full advantage of her low weight in the TRM Excellence In Equine Nutrition Nursery Handicap.
Trained by David Wachman and ridden by Wayne Lordan, the 12-1 chance battled to a three quarter-length success over Harrison's Cave < Ultra Cool (10-1) swept home late to collar Footprint in the Curragh Cafe At TRI Equestrian Handicap (division one).
Chris Hayes got a fine tune out of the Adrian McGuinness-trained filly, who pounced up the centre of the track for a half-length victory, while Boynagh Joy (12/1) came up a similar part of the course when beating Ballladiene under Seamie Heffernan in division two.
