< Newellen landed a gamble in the Tipperary Perpetual Cup Handicap at Clonmel on Thursday evening.
John Oxx's only runner came in for plenty of support and didn't let her backers down as she relished the step up to an extended two miles.< Waydownsouth took it up from long-time leader Captainofthefleet two furlongs from home and it looked like he might have nicked it, but the winner (9-4fav) stayed on well up the home straight and got up by a length.
The bookies were also on the receiving end in the opening Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Fillies Maiden as the well backed Vintage Nouveau (evens fav) built on her promising debut effort.
Dermot Weld's Montjeu filly was soon in front and never looked like getting caught as she cruised home three and a quarter lengths clear of Master Dan.< Tonton Macoute sprang a surprise when scoring by three lengths in the West Gate (C & G) Median Auction Maiden.
The 25-1 outsider of five replaced Stirabout as the leader turning for home and showed a good attitude to fend off the late challenge of Prussian Eagle p>Just three days after running a big race in defeat at the Curragh, Chance To Dance went one better in the Fethard Maiden.
The Jim Bolger-trained gelding was stepping up in trip but there were no stamina problems as he hit the front over a furlong out and galloped three lengths clear of Ebadani to justify 5-4 favouritism.< Abby Cadabby (16-1) stole a march on her rivals entering the home straight in the Ladies Evening At Clonmel Races May 22nd Handicap and stuck on well to hold the fast-finishing Empress Toorah by half a length, while Killourney Empress (7-1) recorded a length verdict over Danequest in an exciting finish to the Free Admission For Ladies May 22nd Handicap.
The card ended with another winning favourite Seismic (7-2fav) beat Roisin Dubh by a length in the Main Guard Handicap.
