'Zoffany's daughter' wins in old Magnier silks

John Magnier's old yellow racing-silks were revived and carried to victory at the Curragh today as Cecelia Clementine caused a 28/1 upset to win the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF (Fillies) Maiden for veteran trainer Kevin Prendergast.
The daughter of Zoffany finished 11th when slowly away on debut at the Curragh last month and today, under jockey Chris Hayes, was more street-wise in battling well to a half length win over Startedwithakiss
Following the race Hayes reported “she’s a nice filly. We liked her going to Leopardstown but she did everything wrong. She has done nothing but progress.
“I wasn’t sure if she would go on the ground and told the boss to enter her in Dundalk. It was pure luck as she was 17 in the ballot there and she was seven here and got in.
“She stuck at it well and I liked her attitude. We’ll bring her back in the spring and hopefully get some black type.”
Cecelia Clementine is owned by the Wachman, Magnier and Shanahan Partnership and is the first in recent times to use the old Magnier, 'yellow, with a black star' silks, worn by Ted Walsh on the Mouse Morris trained 1986 Cheltenham Foxhunters winner Attitude Adjuster.
Cecelia Clementine, meanwhile, was a daughter of 18th century painter Zoffany and a book about her entitled Zoffany's Daughter was written in 2017.
