Zanahiyr got to grips with Dark Voyager in the final furlong of the opening 3YO maiden hurdle at Ballinrobe to score for Gordon Elliott and Keith Donoghue.
Dark Voyager led throughout this two and a quarter mile trip but was closely attended to by both Zanahiyr and Crassus in between horses, at the second last.
The latter got too low at that flight and fell leaving Dark Voyager just in front of Zanahiyr.
Keith Donoghue made his move in the final furlong as he drove Zanahiyr past Dark Voyager with 150 yards to race.
The winner obliged by two and a half lengths at 7/4 from the even-money favourite.
“He’s a nice horse and not just a juvenile,” said Elliott.
“There are a lot of roads to go with him.”
Zanahiyr was last seen winning a maiden on the flat at Fairyhouse in July for Mick Halford.
