Overheer (8/1) returned from a 321 days absence to win on reappearance at Leopardstown today, landing the Racing With Pride Handicap for in-form pair trainer Joe Murphy and jockey Gary Carroll.
A grandson of Murphy's Irish 1,000 Guineas runner-up Ardbrae Lady, Overheer today raced with the pace throughout to beat Cnodian by a length and a quarter, to register a fourth career success.
Carroll, booked to ride Gavin Cromwell's Snellen in Saturday's Chesham Stakes, was registering his 25th success this term and afterwards trainer Murphy said “Overheer is the most honest genuine horse but the handicapper has got to him.
“He's a genuine horse at his level but the handicapper will probably get him again now. We love him and that's why we have him. We tried to sell him last year but we didn't get the price so Joseph Murphy (his son) still owns him and he's a yard horse.”
