Woman goes three places better this time around
Blackwitch Woman at 12/1 bounced back to her best, making all to take the second race on the card at Roscommon this afternoon, the Budweiser Handicap.
The Tom Hogan trained mare ran a nice race of her last start to finish just five lengths, fifth behind Solent Ridge at Wexford. Her last win coming nine runs back at Cork in August of last year.
The daughter of Galileo was in fact fourth in this very contest last year finishing just a length and three parts behind the winner Cabin Point.
Recording her fourth career win here, the winner under Seamie Heffernan, had the field well strung out in behind as she set a fast pace from the front. Badger or Bust at 5/1 was the only horse who challenged her coming up the straight but he couldn't land a blow and finished a length and a half behind in second. Belle's Ridge completed the placings running on a further four lengths back to take third at 16/1.
Winning trainer Tom Hogan said afterwards: "I thought the ground was gone for her as she wants it quick. Seamie gave her a great ride and rode her the same way he usually does when she wins.
"That was the absolute limits of her stamina. She won a couple of handicaps last year."
