The Dermot Weld trained Joailliere justified strong market support to impressively win the opening Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden on debut at Gowran today, in the process putting her in line for future Classic glory.
The daughter of of Dubawi will prove one of the easiest maiden winners this year, effortlessly coasting to a seven lengths win, under Pat Smullen, over Alertness
Weld himself was impressed, later saying "it was impressive. I'm not getting carried away with the level of the race but she can only win and was impressive.
"She was working very nicely coming here today and duly delivered the goods.
"I see her as a Stakes filly and I'll have a chat with her owner Eva Maria (Haefner) and she'll either go for one of the Guineas Trials or straight to the Irish 1,000 Guineas. I'd say we'll look at one of the trials.
"She's very effective with a cut in the ground and that ground wasn't a problem. I see her as a miler. She has a lot of pace."
The winner had been backed from 11/10 generally this morning into 2/5 favouritism at the off.
