Whitecliffsofdover confirmed the favourable impression he made on debut at the Curragh on Derby day when completing a double on the afternoon for champion trainer Aidan O’Brien at Naas in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.
The son of War Front, 4/6 this morning but easy enough on track and sent off the evens favourite, was shaken up by the trainer’s son Donnacha a furlong out and stayed on strongly to score by three lengths. Lightening Fast kept on nicely in the closing stages to take the runner-up spot, with Top Chain a further length and a quarter back in third.
The Ballydoyle trainer earlier sent out Leo Minor to take the juvenile winners’ race under Seamie Heffernan.
Donnacha O’Brien said, “He’d a nice run the first day, and has done it well today. He’s a grand straight forward horse.”
