Whelan on the mark for the Faheys again
Ronan Whelan, who partnered Jarlath Fahey's Balladiene to score at Gowran in the middle of last month, was on the mark again for another of the Monasterevin training brothers tonight at Tipperary, scoring on Peter's Intyre Trail in the Glen of Aherlow Handicap.
This three times previously successful six-year-old (all those wins coming on the all-weather) held off the fast-finishing and unlucky in running Chaparro by a head.
The aforementioned Jarlath, representing his brother Peter, said: "Ronan gave him a good ride. He timed it to perfection.
"This is a very consistent animal but that's the first time he showed his true form on turf. He disappointed on turf until his last couple of starts. He seems to have got his act together now.
"What he needs really is a fast surface and a patient ride."
