Irish St Leger winning combination, Dermot Weld and Oisin Orr struck in the MAC Fuels & General Supplies Maiden at Listowel with Emiyn (3/1 2nd favourite). Charlie Bassett (11/10 market-leader) was trying to make the breakthrough on his tenth outing, whilst for Emiyn it was his sixth start.
Charlie Bassett tried to get it done from the front, but he was chased throughout by the Rosewell House winner.
Pushed along over a furlong out the successful Invincible Spirit colt was ridden to lead inside the final furlong. He stayed on well to defeat the ‘jolly’ by a length.
Winning owner/breeder, the Aga Khan, also had Tashim (5/1 into 100/30). He had to settle for fourth for Michael Halford and Ronan Whelan.
“He was good today and he enjoyed the ground,” said Orr.
“He’s had plenty of experience which helped today and had ran on the ground before so we knew he’d handle it.
“He’s been very consistent and it’s nice to get a win into him.”
