Well-bred Sughera makes the break-through
The early pace set by Dart Queen in the opening www.tramore-racecourse.com Maiden Hurdle at Tramore saw the runners struggle to get home but the one that finished off best was Sughera under Barry Geraghty to score for Tony Martin. Marlos Moment took over from the aforementioned pace-setter four out but from before two out it was apparent that he was on borrowed time in front and the successful Mrs Mac Partnership-owned daughter of Alhaarth soon took over before going on the way to score by three and three parts of a length.
Sughera was bred by Ballymacoll Stud Farm and she is a grand-daughter of 1983 Oaks and Leger heroine, Sun Princess from the family of Princely Venture and Prince Of Dance.
It wasn't surprising to hear Tony Martin say afterwards then that: "The owners would like to breed from her. They are the McCartan family from Kells and it was great to find a race like that for her. Her form was there for everyone to see.
"Ideally it would be good if she could now win on the flat and over fences too. That's a start anyway."
