Trainer Dermot Weld and stable jockey Pat Smullen combined to win the Group 3 Leopardstown 1,000 Guineas Trial Stakes at Leopardstown today with Rawaaq
Smullen held the daughter of Invincible Spirit up behind the leaders before progressing to lead inside the final furlong, staying on well for a length and a quarter win over What Style
Afterwards Weld stated “Rawaaq is a very consistent filly and what she lacks in size, she makes up in courage!
“She won the maiden on Derby day last year and the form has worked out quite well. That was a good workmanlike performance today and she acts on the ground and is a very sound, tough filly. She'll come back here for the Derrinstown 1,000 Guineas Trial and will probably take her chance in the Irish 1,000 Guineas then.”
