Weld's Beauty is Melbourne bound
Dermot Weld is eyeing a return to the Melbourne Cup with his Profound Beauty who landed the Group 3 At The Races Curragh Cup at The Curragh today.
Weld's stable jockey Pat Smullen settled the daughter of Danehill behind the leaders before moving through to lead a furlong out, staying on well for a neck win over the fast finishing Alandi
Weld subsequently stated “Profound Beauty always runs a game race but just seemed to get a little tired in the closing stages. Her mid-summer target was today and now the obvious target is the Irish St Leger.”
He added “the Melbourne Cup is her target again this year. She ran a cracker to finish fifth in the race last year and is now a year older and slightly stronger.”
