The Dermot Weld trained Sharliyna was an impressive winner of the concluding Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden at Leopardstown today, quickening smartly in the straight for a debut win under Pat Smullen.
The Aga Khan owned and bred filly was a heavily backed 10/11 favourite and in the end proved three and a half lengths too strong for Truffles
Following the race, Weld stated “it wasn't the strongest of maidens but she did it nicely for her first start.I'd say she will be a progressive filly.
"You won't see the best of her until next year. She is a big, strong filly and will make a lovely four-year-old."
