Weld makes History at Ballybrit
Dermot Weld made history at Ballybrit today when recording his eleventh winner of the festival when Masdar took the concluding Kerrymaid Festival Flat Race this evening under a fine ride by Robbie McNamara.
McNamara had to work hard aboard the Dalakhani gelding entering the straight.
The 6/1 shot dug deep to get up and lead close home and deny Somethingdifferent by two lengths.
A delighted Weld said afterwards: “It was nice to break the record and that was Robbie’s fifth win of the week from only six rides.”
“We were hoping for a good run first time out, he’s a nicely bred horse he was just a bit weak and backward.”
“Robbie [McNamara] was more confident than I was coming into race, I thought it might have a come a bit too soon.”
“I think there’s a lot of improved to come of this horse, he’s a nice horse.”
