Weld dedicates final victor to late Colm Murray

"I'd like to dedicate that win to Colm Murray," said Dermot Weld (8th winner of the week) in the aftermath of Dont Tell No One brining up a treble for the yard in the concluding Guinness Quarter Flat Race at Galway.
After the Robbie McNamara (a pound over at 12st 1Ib) -ridden Westerner gelding, an 11/4 shot (from 4s) added to the earlier gains for the yard with Yellow Rosebud and Treasure The Ridge owner/breeder, racing television presenter Brian Gleeson said: "I rang Colm (deceased and only buried today) when I named him and how fitting and apt that he's gone and won today. There's no doubt but he'd have backed him were he still here." Shesafoxylady got in as a reserve here and was a big 'talking horse' going off the 6/4 favourite. However both that one and the eventual winner looked like they might have to settle for minor roles behind the 'Shark' Hanlon's Giantofaman in the straight.
'Corky' Carroll's mount drifted about badly though inside the last and he ended up finishing two and three parts of a length off Dont Tell No One, in second, whilst the aforementioned Shesafoxylady was a short head back in third.
Weld went on to say of Dont Tell No One: "I just thought this would be two weeks too soon for him but it was a nice performance.
"He's a young horse that could have quite a future. To win today was a bonus. I just hope the second horse (Giantofaman) is alright as well." (TW & EM)
