Weld completes a treble
Dermot Weld brought his tally to five victories for the opening two days of the 2009 Galway Festival when Qassaar completed an 89/1 Tuesday treble for the Rosewell House maestro in the concluding Tote EBF Maiden.
Pat Smullen was making it a double on the day aboard the 8/15 favourite, having scored earlier on Almolahek (11/2) in the two mile Tote Jackpot Handicap. Teach Nua and Paul Townend initiated the Weld treble in the opening Tote-sponsored maiden hurdle.
Weld said after Qassaar's success, “Pat gave him a great ride and we will try and find a handicap for him next. It was a good night's work and the three winners got great rides.”
Weld also revealed, “Teach Nua had a superficial cut on his leg, and he should be okay to run tomorrow.”
