Trainer Dermot Weld and jacket Pat Smullen are riding the crest of a wave at present and claimed a double at Leopardstown today, when their Calumet Farm owned Foxtrot Charlie landed the featured Listed Coral.ie Glencairn Stakes at Leopardstown today.
Weld and Sullen won last Saturday’s Epsom Derby with Harzand and the pair have now combined for four subsequent winners, with Foxtrot Charlie following up debutante Currency Converter rsquo;s earlier win.
Foxtrot Charlie, an American bred son of English Channel was produced to lead under a furlong out before staying on well to beat Tennessee Wildcat by a length.
Afterwards Weld stated “that was a pleasing performance, and is my first Stakes winner for Calumet. He’s a nice horse and will probably run back in the Celebration Stakes over a mile at the Curragh on Derby day.
“He has a good attitude and is inexperienced as it was only his third run. He ran a good race in the Gallinule, and we probably took a bit of a chance dropping back to a mile although he was showing plenty of pace.”
