- Walsh takes Corrick Bridge home
Walsh takes Corrick Bridge home
Ruby Walsh picked up some compensation when partnering Corrick Bridge at 8/1 to victory in the Bellewstown Golfcourse three mile handicap hurdle. This was the horse that fell in a Down Royal steeplechase last November leaving Walsh with a broken leg.
The nine-year-old wore down Carutomark after the last to win by two-and-a-half lengths from his 20/1 rival with So Billiant and Another Ambition finishing third and fourth respectively.
Tony Martin who trains the son of In The Wings for Kerry owner William Moloney said: “It was Ruby’s choice which one he rode [Martin’s other horse Another Ambition came fourth].
“Fair play to him after the fall this horse gave him at Down Royal that he picked him.
“The other horse [Another Ambition] didn’t jump that well.”
The stewards interviewed Martin regarding Corrick Bridge's improvement in form from finishing last of 15 at Listowel.
Martin explained that he fancied the horse at Listowel but he ran disappointingly. He said he had the horse scoped and checked out by his vet but nothing untoward was found.
He said there was heavy rain at Listowel and the ground rode dead in his opinion.
He also said that any improvement could have come from the faster ground today.
The stewards accepted the explanation.
