Walkabout took the feature at Ballinrobe this evening, the Burleigh Accountancy Handicap Hurdle, for the second year in-a-row, scoring under Davy Russell for Gordon Elliott.
Without a win since his success here twelve months ago, the son of Papal Bull was sent off at 9/2 (from 15/2 this morning and 5s on-course), after finishing sixth of twelve on his last start at Roscommon.
Prominent throughout, the five-year-old victor gained a definite lead after the second last, and was ridden clear from the final flight, going on to score convincingly by six lengths for owner Martin Wasylocha . The Irregular finished second at 5/2 under Denis Hogan, while the 9/4 favourite (7/2 this morning) Whats The Plot was a disappointing fourth with Richie Deegan in the saddle for Arthur Moore.
"It was an ideal race for him really as obviously he has a liking for the place," said Russell.
"He didn't have to give away too much weight as it was only 10-13 at the bottom, that was a big thing, and he just got away with the ground.
"As they say keep yourself in the best company and your horses in the worst. Not saying that there is anything wrong with the rest of them but it suited him today."
