Von for Ballydoyle
Von Jawlensky appreciated the step down from classic company when pace-making for the Ballydoyle team in the St Leger at Doncaster last Saturday by taking the Ladbrokes sponsored mile and a half conditions race in good style.
Well-backed from 4/1 down to 5/2, Seamus Heffernan sent the Montjeu colt past the front-running Via Galilei entering the straight and he stayed on well to beat Eytarna by three and a half lengths. The Bull Hayes (9/4 favourite) found little approaching the straight, eventually finishing a disappointing seventh.
“The strong pace suited this horse well. He stays but is still a bit immature,” said Heffernan.
