The trade paper made the point that Vastonea has a good record when fresh and the grey proved up to the task off a 199 day break in the Breeze Up At Gowran Park May 23rd Handicap.
Shane Foley did everything in his power to keep the well-backed favourite Regulation in front from the two furlong pole.
However the Topaz Mile hero from Galway last summer, Vastonea was getting into top gear at the same time and he stayed on best to get up close home.
'At the death' there was a head separating Vastonea from Miracle Cure with the same margin back to the third-placed front-runner, the aforementioned, Regulation.
Winning trainer and owner, Kevin Prendergast and Norman Ormiston had the beaten favourite, Danseur De Feu earlier on the programme. The former remarked: "He stuck it out well but he had to have the 3Ibs (successful jockey Sam James' claim) off. The rain that fell helped him too.
"Fast ground is out for him as he fractured his knee when he was a two-year-old." (DM & EM)
