Coolfighter was awarded the third race in Wexford after Colin Keane failed to weigh in after originally winning the race aboard Unrequited
Unrequited was nicely-backed for this in the extended mile and three handicap. The three-year-old colt raced in fourth on this his handicap debut. He made good headway on the outer over three furlongs from home to get on terms with the leader Flowing Air He soon picked up the lead and asserted with over a furlong left.
He scored by two lengths at 13/2 having been 10/1 in the morning and 8/1 on opening show at the track. Coolfighter stayed on stoutly from mid-division on close on the winner late on. However, there was a sting in the tail for connections of Unrequited when the winning jockey didn’t weigh in afterwards. This led to Coolfighter getting the race at 13/2 for Noel Dooly and Seamie Heffernan. Ring Chief at 4/1 got second-placed money and The Fox Tully (20/1) was promoted to third.
Ger Lyons trains Unrequited. His assistant trainer Shane Lyons said: “If that’s the worst thing that ever happens him (Colin Keane) he won’t be too bad. He is very upset about it, but we are behind him 100 per cent.”
