The Kevin Prendergast trained Blue Petal caused a 12/1 surprise when winning the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Claiming Maiden at Tipperary today, scoring under jockey Chris Hayes.
The daughter of Haatef edged to the front with a furlong to race and in the end battled gamely to beat Vocal Music
Afterwards Hayes stated “she is tough and hardy, like all that bred and we thought she’d win a race in handicap company. I suppose that was kind of like a handicap and she was in off a nice weight.
“Her family were fierce genuine ad what she lacks in size, she makes up for in heart and she was good and genuine there.”
There were no claims for any of the ten runners.
