Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up On His Own was reported lame following a poor showing in today's Punchestown Gold Cup while jockey Jamie Codd received a two day suspension for his use of the whip on Shanehill in the Champion Bumper.
Here are the reports:
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Sea Light trained by C.Byrnes, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be blowing hard and distressed post race.
D.N. Russell, rider of Noble Prince (GER), trained by Paul Nolan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled.
P. Townend, rider of On His Own, trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount raced reluctantly and never travelled.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined On His Own, at the request of trainer, W.P. Mullins, and reported the animal to be lame on his off fore leg post race.
The Stewards interviewed R. Walsh, rider of Boston Bob concerning his use of the whip in closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found R. Walsh in breach of Reg 10 4. by failing to give his mount time to respond and having taken his good record into account they cautioned him regarding his future responsibilities in this regard.
The Stewards interviewed Mr J.J. Codd, rider of Shaneshill concerning his use of the whip in latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found Mr. J.J. Codd in breach of Reg 10.3. (f) by using his whip with excessive force and frequency and having taken his good record into account suspended him for two race days.
